Jacksonville, Florida (November, 2012) – An impressive collection by artist legend, Peter Max’s exquisite paintings will be on exhibition and available for acquisition at Avondale Artworks Art Gallery in Jacksonville, Florida. Max will be unveiling his extraordinary new Masters series, interpretive works of Vincent Van Gogh, Monet, Pablo Picasso, Renoir, and Edgar Degas, conceived in Max’s signature style and colors. These works speak to both a maturation of the Artists’ illustrious career, as well as to his formidable training at the 130 year old Art Students League of New York.
Peter Max emerged as a powerful force in the Art World from the Art Students League, alongside such Artists as Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollack, Cy Twombly and Norman Rockwell. The League was a formative influence on these artists’ innovative artwork, and has led each and every one to greatness and an important legacy in history.
Exhibit previews begin on Saturday, January 12th 2013, and the exhibition extends through Sunday, January 20th, 2013. Peter Max will be making two very special appearances at Avondale Artworks Art Gallery, www.avondaleartworks.com on Saturday, January 19th from 6-9pm and Sunday, January 20th from 1-4pm.
With paintings on exhibition in hundreds of museums and galleries worldwide, Peter Max and his vibrant colors have become part of the fabric of contemporary culture. Max has been successively called a Pop Icon, Neo Fauvist, Abstract Expressionist and the United States "Painter Laureate." The artist has had the distinct honor of painting the last seven Presidents of the United States and the world's best loved celebrities, among them the young sensation Taylor Swift. This exhibit features his iconic and best-known pieces as well, among them “Statue of Liberty”, Max’s famous “Flag” pieces, “Umbrella Man” and the prestigious “Cosmic Runner”.
Recently, Norwegian Cruise Line revealed Norwegian Breakaway’s signature hull artwork designed by the pop icon. This is the first time Norwegian has commissioned a well-known artist to paint the hull artwork on one of its ships. Launching in April 2013, Norwegian Breakaway will be the largest ship to homeport in New York City year-round. Max’s signature artwork will cover approximately 40,000 square feet of Norwegian Breakaway’s hull.
